Aim

At Gingle Kids ECC, we aim to ensure a safe, healthy, and secure environment for all children, staff, and visitors by implementing clear health and safety procedures, risk assessments, and safeguarding measures.

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to guide practitioners, staff members and parents to the best standards and practice in relation to Health and Safety measures in the setting.

We will implement that by:

  • Establishing clear health and safety protocols for children, staff, and visitors.
  • Providing structured risk assessments for daily operations, outings, and emergency situations.
  • Defining responsibilities for immunizations, medicine administration, and fire safety.
  • Promoting children’s well-being and emotional safety through structured support systems.

Gingle Kids ELC manager is in charge for ensuring health and safety of children enrolled at the ELC. The manager is in-charge for the implementation of this policy. To achieve this, we will actively work towards the following general objectives.

  • Establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment within the Nursery.
  • Establish and maintain safe working practices amongst staff and Children.
  • Ensure the provision of sufficient information, instruction and supervision to enable all people working in the nursery to avoid hazards and contribute positively to their own health and safety and ensure that staff has access to regular health and safety Training.
  • Formulate effective procedures for use in case of fire and other emergencies and for evacuating the ELC premises. The ELC will practice this procedure on a regular basis to enable the safe and speedy evacuation of the ELC.
  • Maintain a safe environment for those with special educational needs and disabilities and ensure all areas of the nursery are accessible (wherever practicable).
  • Provide a safe environment for children to learn in.
  • Encourage all staff, visitors and parents to report any unsafe working practices or areas to ensure immediate response by the management.
  • The nursery will ensure maximum protection for children, staff and Parents.
  • Ensure the entrance & exit from the nursery, including fire exit is clearly identifiable and remain clear at all times.
  • Regularly check the premises room by room for structural defects, worn-out fixtures and fittings or electrical equipment and take the necessary corrective action.
  • Ensure that all staff, visitors, parents and children are aware of the fire procedures and regular fire drills are carried out.
  • Have appropriate fire detection and control equipment which is checked regularly to make sure it is in working  The nursery has used fire rated doors for its premises.
  • Ensure the nursery staff is aware of the procedure to follow in case of accidents for staff, visitors and children.
  • Ensure the staff takes all reasonable actions to control the spread of infectious diseases and wear protective gloves and clothing where appropriate.
  • Ensure there are suitable hygienic changing facilities
  • Prohibit smoking on the nursery Premises.
  • Prohibit any contractor from working on the premises during operational 
  • Encourage children to manage risks safely and prohibit running inside the premises unless in designated areas.
  • Risk assess all electrical sockets and take appropriate measures to reduce risks where necessary and ensure no trailing wires are left around the ELC.
  • Ensure all cleaning materials are placed out of the reach of children and kept in their original containers.
  • Prohibit certain foods that may relate to children’s allergies, g. peanuts are not allowed in the ELC.
  • Ensure risk assessments are undertaken on the storage of food within the ELC.
  • Familiarize all staff and visitors with the position of the first aid boxes and ensure everyone is aware of the nursery’s DHA approved nurse.
  • Provide appropriately stocked first aid boxes and check their contents 
  • Ensure children are supervised at all Times.
  • Ensure no child is left unsupervised at any Time.
